FILAMENT TAPE

FILAMENT TAPE
Filament tape (also known as strapping tape, fibre tape, or filament strapping tape) is a high-strength pressure-sensitive adhesive tape reinforced with fibreglass or polyester filament threads embedded longitudinally or bi-directionally into the backing. The filament reinforcement dramatically increases tensile strength and tear resistance, making it one of the strongest tapes available for heavy-duty bundling, reinforcing, palletising, and unitising applications where standard tapes would fail under load.
Standard widths : 12, 18, 24, 25, 36, 48, 50 mm
Standard roll lengths : 50m, 55m, 66m per roll
Key Characteristics
- Backing material: Polypropylene (PP) or polyester (PET) film with embedded fibreglass or polyester filaments
- Adhesive type: Rubber-based hot-melt or synthetic rubber pressure-sensitive adhesive
- Filament type: Fibreglass (most common) or polyester threads
- Filament direction: Unidirectional (longitudinal) or bi-directional (cross-weave)
- Surface finish: Glossy or semi-gloss
- Color: Clear, white, or transparent (standard); tan, silver, and custom colors available
- Tearability: Cannot be hand-torn — requires scissors, knife, or blade dispenser
Standard widths : 12, 18, 24, 25, 36, 48, 50 mm
Standard roll lengths : 50m, 55m, 66m per roll
Common Applications
| Industry | Application |
|---|---|
| Logistics & Shipping | Reinforcing carton seams, securing box flaps, closing heavy export cartons |
| Warehousing | Pallet unitising, bundling irregular loads, securing rolls and reels |
| Manufacturing | Bundling pipes, bars, rods, tubes, and structural profiles |
| Appliances & Electronics | Securing heavy items inside packaging, carton reinforcement |
| Building & Construction | Bundling timber, insulation boards, piping, and construction materials |
| Automotive | Bundling components, securing parts for transit, harness wrapping |
| Paper & Print | Securing paper rolls, binding printed matter, bundling publications |
| Aerospace | Lightweight strapping, securing components, cable bundling |
| Metal Industry | Bundling steel bars, aluminium extrusions, sheet metal stacks |
| Moving & Relocation | Securing drawers, doors, and panels on furniture during transit |
Common Application Techniques
Bundling Pipes or Bars:
- Wrap tape tightly around the bundle in a spiral pattern
- Apply 2 – 3 wraps at each end and centre of the bundle
- Overlap each wrap by 50% for consistent holding force
- Press firmly to ensure full adhesive contact
Reinforcing Carton Seams:
- Apply tape along the full length of all bottom seams before filling
- Apply a second strip across the centre of the base for heavy cartons
- Repeat on top flaps after sealing for export or heavy-duty shipment
- Press firmly along full length with a roller or firm hand pressure
Pallet Unitising:
- Wrap filament tape horizontally around the full pallet load
- Apply 3 – 4 rows at equal intervals from bottom to top
- Combine with stretch film wrap for maximum load stability
- Secure loose or protruding items with additional diagonal strapping
