Polyester strapping band (also known as PET strapping, polyester strap, PET banding, or poly-ester strapping) is a high-performance flat strapping material manufactured from biaxially oriented polyethylene terephthalate (PET) — the same base polymer used in plastic bottles — uniaxially stretched to align its molecular chains and dramatically enhance tensile strength, rigidity, and elastic recovery. PET strapping occupies the performance gap between polypropylene (PP) strapping and steel strapping, delivering superior tensile strength, outstanding elongation recovery, excellent resistance to environmental degradation, and significantly safer handling compared to steel — making it the preferred strapping choice for heavy industrial loads, export packaging, timber, building materials, metals, and any application where load security, long-term tension retention, and worker safety are paramount.
Key Characteristics
- Material: Biaxially oriented Polyethylene Terephthalate (PET)
- Surface finish: Embossed (standard); smooth; or multi-filament woven
- Color: Transparent / natural green (standard); black, white, grey also available
- Joint method: Metal buckle seal; plastic clip; battery heat seal; pneumatic friction weld
- Format: Machine core roll; hand coil; or dispenser box
- Elongation: Low to medium — outstanding elastic recovery under sustained load
- Tearability: Cannot be hand-torn — requires dedicated strap cutter or heavy-duty blade
Material : Oriented PET (Polyethylene Terephthalate)
Strap width : 9, 12, 15, 16, 19, 25, 32 mm
Strap thickness : 0.50 – 1.30 mm
Tensile strength : 150 – 800 kg (width and thickness dependent)
Strap Width & Application Guide
| Strap Width | Tensile Strength Range | Recommended Load | Best Application |
|---|---|---|---|
| 9 mm | 150 – 200 kg | Up to 50 kg | Light bundling; medium carton reinforcement |
| 12 mm | 200 – 300 kg | Up to 100 kg | General industrial strapping; medium loads |
| 15 – 16 mm | 300 – 450 kg | Up to 200 kg | Heavy carton sealing; pallet strapping |
| 19 mm | 450 – 600 kg | Up to 300 kg | Heavy industrial loads; export pallet strapping |
| 25 mm | 600 – 700 kg | Up to 500 kg | Very heavy industrial; steel and timber bundling |
| 32 mm | 700 – 800 kg | Up to 700 kg | Maximum duty; steel mill; stone; heavy engineering |
Key Performance Properties
- Very high tensile strength — significantly stronger than PP strapping of the same width; approaches steel performance
- Outstanding elongation recovery — 95 – 100% elastic recovery maintains strap tension throughout entire transit journey
- Excellent temperature stability — maintains strength and performance from -20°C to +70°C
- Superior UV resistance — significantly more UV-stable than PP; outdoor storage grades available
- No corrosion — completely unaffected by moisture and humidity; will never rust or stain goods
- No sharp edges — completely safe to handle and remove; no cut hazard unlike steel strapping
- Chemical resistant — resists most acids, alkalis, oils, and mild industrial solvents
- Consistent tension — load arrives at destination with same tension as when strapped at origin
- Lightweight — up to 75% lighter than equivalent-strength steel strapping
- Recyclable — PET is one of the most recyclable plastics globally
- Recycled content available — produced from recycled PET bottles in eco-grades
- Clean strapping — no grease, rust, or metal contamination of goods or packaging
- Safe for food and pharmaceutical use — no metal contamination risk from strap or buckle removal
Common Applications
